I was given the chance to pay a visit to a Pircher production site: here are some of their secrets
The welcome
The gates open at 8 in Villabassa (Bolzano) where Beatrix, the receptionist, welcomes me.
I enter full of curiosity to see where the Pircher products come to life.
This guided tour came about almost by accident.
I've been a big fan of wood from an early age and receiving a reply to my email request to visit the facilities was therefore a great delight for me.
My name is Michele, I'm an internet blogger and I like to talk about my hobbies.
Consider this the tale of a 'guest' of Pircher, one of the most renowned European players in wood products.
My passion comes from an interest in the relationship between nature, design and creativity.
The way in which, with commitment and ingenuity, it is possible to create something unique, useful and beautiful to look at from a common raw material.
Therefore, being given the chance to enter the production site at Dobbiaco most certainly aroused both curiosity and interest in me therefore.
Raw materials and love for the land
I am welcomed by Karl Hell, head of Pircher for quality, safety and the environment.
Karl tells me about the ways in which the creation process gets underway.
"Everything comes from South Tyrol. Ever since I was a child, I have always enjoyed walking in nature, in the valleys and woods.
I feel a very strong bond with these places. Knowing that my work – after 23 years – allows me to take advantage of the fruits of this land, whilst strictly respecting the environment, is a source of great satisfaction for me. And our customers are well aware of this. They can see the healthy, quality controlled relationship with the land, as in the Bioline, high altitude larchwood products for example".
He looks at me with big, radiant eyes. I can feel the passion of a worker fulfilled and at the same time the great heart of a man who loves his land.
He then shows me the machinery. The smell of the wood is pleasant, and the friendliness of the people working there contagious. I continue the visit between the machines, the craftsmen hard at work and the production processes. There is a great sense of harmony.
Stimulating and unique environment
In the second part of the morning I am showed the area where the ideas and concepts for new products are developed.
"Everything starts from here. We consider our customers and Pircher product lovers. We consider their needs. Their style of life. We imagine their hobbies, their homes and their passions. We think of the perfect product that can make each and every moment more pleasant and functional." Christian Gitzl, head of the technical department, looks at me, and smiles. "It's a difficult challenge, I assure you. But seeing the results both for us and for our customers is understanding the difference between ours and other standardised products".
Skills and careful research and processes
After a small brunch, we head to Rolo, Reggio Emilia. This is where the main logistics centre is based. About 100, 000 square meters in which rapidity, precision and high technology allow orders to be processed and delivered in just 48 hours.
"The speed of delivery translates into us having an average of 48 hours for processing and delivering orders to customers throughout Italy", Fabio Aldrovandi, Sales Manager, explains to me with pride. "Our custom logistics software allows us to trace the exact movements of our products at all times".
His explanations imply a strong projection for the future of the company, where the customers can receive their sheds and garden products, pergolas, gazebos and DIY accessories both quickly and with meticulous control.
All the elements combine to make the difference that allows the customers to fall in love with the brand and the company, which places Pircher as a strong competitor on the market.
Centuries-old traditions and passion for their work
In the afternoon, we visit the exhibition area at the Pircher Shop in Rolo.
After the design, technical and manufacturing areas, the final products appear in another light altogether and seem even more valuable.
With quality, sustainability and innovation, Pircher provides a range of products for lovers of value and high-quality items.
A day in the life of Pircher. A way to appreciate a company even more that creates value, exclusivity and satisfaction from its passion for wood since 1928.
